Mistakes & Corrections Policy
Last updated: July 12, 2026
Accuracy is a core value of Policy & Packets. Because I write about technical topics such as server configurations, routing protocols, and government policies minor errors can sometimes lead to broken systems or misunderstandings.
I make every effort to verify facts, commands, and links before publishing, but mistakes will happen. This policy explains how I handle corrections and updates when errors are identified.
1. Reporting a Mistake
If you notice an error (factual, technical, spelling, grammatical, or a broken link) in any post, I want to hear about it! You can report errors in two ways:
- Via the Contact Form: For minor issues please submit details of the error using the Contact Page.
- Via Linkedin: For any major issues please send me a message on Linkedin as I will be notified.
2. Technical and Factual Corrections
When a significant technical or factual error is reported and verified:
- Prompt Updates: I will update the article as soon as possible to reflect the correct information.
- Correction Notices: For errors that could cause system misconfiguration (e.g., incorrect CLI commands, wrong configuration files), I will append a "Correction Notice" at the bottom of the article.
- Format of Notices: The correction notice will include:
- The date of the update.
- What the original text said.
- What was corrected and why.
- E.g., "Correction (12 July 2026): A previous version of this post stated that the command was 'ip route 0.0.0.0'. This has been corrected to 'ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 [gateway]'."
- If it's something which can not easily be fixed I try and publish a separate post which will be linked saying how to fix it and telling people why this issue happened.
3. Typographical and Grammatical Edits
- For minor mistakes (e.g., spelling errors, typos, formatting issues, or broken links) that do not change the factual meaning of the article, I will correct the text immediately.
- I do not append correction notices for minor typographical or grammatical updates, as they do not affect the validity of the technical instructions or arguments.
Thank you for helping me keep Policy & Packets accurate, reliable, and helpful.
